Invitation for Second Symposium of the Photonics Society of Poland PDF Print E-mail

Dear Members of Photonics Socety of Poland,

On behalf of the International Katowice Fair Management, Exhibition Center FairExpo Ltd. and the Photonic Society of Poland, we would like to invite you to take part in the second edition of Second Symposium of the Photonics Society of Poland combined with OPTON 2012 International Trade Fair for Optoelectronics and Photonics which will take place on 15-16th May 2012.

OPTON International Fair will be organised in Katowice every two years. It is a great opportunity to become familiar with domestic and foreign offers in the field of optoelectronics and photonics, which are sciences used in many industrial branches. It is a presentation of the state-of-the-art equipment and technologies that are launched in the Polish market. It is a variety of industrial branches and an opportunity to compare specialist exhibitions presented in one place and time. A fair that gathers representatives of the abovementioned fields will have a chance to become an excellent forum for presenting new solutions, exchanging experience between specialists, as well as an excellent meeting place for experts in these areas. For many years, International Katowice Fair has been an experienced organiser of specialist fair exhibitions. Therefore, it intends to prepare and present to our professional consumers an exhibition that boasts a select team of exhibitors and a varied programme of accompanying events in which policymakers and specialists of the appropriate sector will participate.

Our aim is to help you – our Exhibitors – establish long-lasting and satisfying business contacts. Bearing this in mind, we constantly collect information about potential recipients of your commercial offer: among other things, we conduct electronic registration of visitors and organise meetings with key clients for you. We are assisted by recognised experts in the field of science and industry, who give seminars and thematic lectures during Exhibitions.

We are pleased to inform you that the OPTON Fair is organised under the honorary auspices of and in cooperation with Photonics Society of Poland and under the auspices of Polish Society for Sensing Techniques.

We are convinced that participation in OPTON 2012 Fair will be an exceptional experience for you. It is with great pleasure that we can already today invite you to Katowice in May 2012.

CS Industry Award 2012 for Ammono PDF Print E-mail

We are pleased to inform that Polish company Ammono has won the prestigious Compound Semiconductor Industry Award for the best 2012 product in the category of substrates and materials. The prize was granted for the engineering and the market introduction of the High Transparency Gallium Nitride Substrate.

The revolutionary product introduced by Ammono is the result of a clear market need for high quality GaN aiming at LED applications. It brings together two key features. At one side the inherent low dislocation of the ammonothermal GaN enabling the reduction of the droop effect and a better heat dissipation. At the other side the substrate’s high transparency which increases the light output of the LED. As a result the way towards three breakthroughs in LED technology is paved. Those are: the decrease of the cost of a single lumen, the increase of the LED life-time and a much higher light output enabling new classes of applications.

Invitation for a lecture of prof. Perry Ping Shum PDF Print E-mail

We have a great pleasure to announce an invited lecture of prof. Prof. Perry Ping Shum, Nanyang Technological University, (Singapore), entitled:

"Novel Fiber-based Devices for Sensing Applications"

on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 2:15 pm, Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Physics (75 Koszykowa Str. in Warsaw), room 111

Abstract: Optical fiber-based sensing technologies have been widely developed, due to their notable advantages such as electrically-passive operation, light weight, immunity to radio frequency interference and electromagnetic interference, high sensitivity, compact size, corrosion resistance, easily multiplexing and potentially low cost. Several novel fiber-based sensors and technologies developed are presented here, including fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensors, photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based sensors, special fiber (nanofiber, double cladding fiber) based sensors and distributed fiber sensing systems.

FBGs as instinctive sensors, are ingeniously designed as two-dimensional (2D) tilt sensors, displacement sensors, accelerometers and corrosion sensors here; PCF based evanescent field absorption sensor, PCF induced Mach-Zehnder interferometer and Fabry-Perot refractometer for temperature and refractive index sensing are presented; based on localized surface Plasmon resonant (LSPR) effect, nano-sized fiber tip with gold nanoparticles are demonstrated for live cell index bio-sensing applications; multiplexing techniques, such as optical low coherent reflectometry (OLCR) and optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR), for distributed fiber sensing system are briefly discussed as well.

Short biography of Lecturer:
