CS Industry Award 2012 for Ammono PDF Print E-mail

We are pleased to inform that Polish company Ammono has won the prestigious Compound Semiconductor Industry Award for the best 2012 product in the category of substrates and materials. The prize was granted for the engineering and the market introduction of the High Transparency Gallium Nitride Substrate.

The revolutionary product introduced by Ammono is the result of a clear market need for high quality GaN aiming at LED applications. It brings together two key features. At one side the inherent low dislocation of the ammonothermal GaN enabling the reduction of the droop effect and a better heat dissipation. At the other side the substrate’s high transparency which increases the light output of the LED. As a result the way towards three breakthroughs in LED technology is paved. Those are: the decrease of the cost of a single lumen, the increase of the LED life-time and a much higher light output enabling new classes of applications.

Note from http://www.csawards.net/winners/2012:

The winner of this category, a high transparency n-type gallium nitride substrate, is the result of clear market need for high quality GaN aiming at LED applications.

This substrate brings together two key features. On one hand it offers the inherent low dislocation of ammonothermal GaN, which enables a reduction in LED droop and better heat dissipation. On the other hand the substrate offers high transparency, which increases the light output of the LED.

n-type substrates made by the ammonothermal method promise to enable three adavances in in LED technology: The decrease of the cost of a single lumen; the increase of the LED life-time, and a much higher light output enabling new classes of applications

"Ammono's growth technique is a wonderfully elegant way to address the challenging problem of how to form GaN substrates. The tremendously flat, ultra-high-quality substrates that result should help to spur further improvements in laser and LED performance."

'In a very short time Compound Semiconductor has become a key member of our stable of microelectronics' manufacturing magazines' said David Ridsdale, Editor in Chief of the Semiconductor and Solar Group. 'In line with our other products we introduced the CS Industry Awards to ensure peer recognition of the constant innovation that occurs in the industries we work within. The CS Industry Awards has already become a key industry event applauding the best achievements by those working in the field'
