The Conference will be twelfth meeting within the National Symposia "Optical fibres and Their Applications". These Conferences are held in Krasnobród and Białowieża alternately every one and half years. In Białowieża the presentations concern largely with optical fibres applications while in Krasnobród their technology.

The aim of the conference is enabling a direct contact and discussion between the teams dealing with:

• Development of technology and fabrication of optical fibres, cables, planar waveguides and elements of integrated optics and micro-optics
• Elements of optical fibres technique like couplers, connectors, optical fibres amplifiers, optical and optoelectronic devices for connecting optical fibres with light sources and detectors, multiplexers
• Optical fibres applications especially those requiring a close cooperation with the optical fibres and optical cables, elements of optical fibres technique and optoelectronics manufactures
• Education in the photonics in the universities and high schools

    The new element of the Conference will be workshop "Optical fibres technology" for students and PhD students, organized in the technological laboratories of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University. We hope that this event will give the students an opportunity for understanding of possibilities and barriers of optical fibres technology - optical fibres and cables are important basic elements for photonics. We also hope that the presentation of the current possibilities of a widely understood optical fibres and optical fibres devices, as far as a direct discussion between the research teams will stimulate the development of optoelectronics in Poland. The organizers' intention is to expand this discussion inviting the research teams from neighboring countries, especially from the East, for a common debate.
